How to make a St. George ribbon with your own hands:

Materials that we will need to make the St. George ribbon - brooches with a tricolor flower

Be very careful when working with fire!

For the flower we will make a round petal, you will need 9 pieces, 3 pieces of each color. For each petal, cut out a 5*5 cm square. Fold the square in half, with the sharp corner down.

Pull each corner of the triangle towards the center, as shown in the photo.

Fold the resulting piece in half with the corners facing backwards.

Cut off the corner. Burn the bottom edge with a lighter.

Burn the side sections separately with a lighter, as shown in the photo.

You will get a round petal like this. Complete the remaining petals in the same way. Glue the petals together with a glue gun along the bottom edges. Alternate colors - white, blue, red petal. Glue a green ribbon bow and a large bead into the middle.

Cut the St. George ribbon to a length of 30 cm, trim the sections with a tick. Fold the tape like a figure eight and glue it in the middle with glue. Glue a tricolor flower onto the tape. Glue the clasp to the back of the brooch.

Preparing the edge of the St. George ribbon

We take a cut of the St. George ribbon. First we will process the edges of the tape. To do this you will need scissors and a candle (lighter or matches), we have a lighter. Cut triangles along the edges of the ribbon as shown in the picture. We treat the cut areas with fire. This way the cuts will be fixed and the tape will not fall off.

We bend the resulting tape as shown in the figure and fix it with glue. We turn the resulting product over. Glue a metal clasp to make a brooch. We apply glue to the metal part, so it will stick better and stain the tape less. If you do pour too much glue, carefully remove it before the glue dries. You need to wait until the glue dries.

Making St. George ribbons from satin ribbons using the kanzashi technique

Cut squares from black and orange ribbon. We need 11 black squares and 11 orange ones. There is no need to scorch the cut parts with fire first. We make 1 petal, the others are made by analogy with the first. Take the yellow square and fold it diagonally, pressing the edges exactly towards each other, you get a triangle. We do the same with the black square. Press the resulting triangles together. We put a yellow triangle underneath and a black triangle on top (or vice versa). For convenience, use tweezers. The parts are small and it’s difficult to do everything by hand. Now fold the edges of the triangle towards the center. The result was a petal with sharp edges, one of the common petals in the kanzashi technique. We treat the edges with fire, due to this they will stick to each other and will not crumble.

We carry out the procedure by analogy with other squares. As a result, we get 11 petals of the future decoration. For the flower we need 6 petals, from the remaining 5 we will make leaves. Apply glue to the back of the petals. We form a flower and leaves. There are 2 leaves below the flower and 3 above the flower. Remove excess glue immediately before it dries. Glue a bead - the core - into the center of the flower. Using your imagination, you can create your own composition. If you do not connect squares of two colors, you will get plain petals.

Decorating with ready-made elements

Take a metal decorative element (sold in decorative stores) and carefully glue it to the tape. Apply glue to the decorative element and press tightly to the tape. Remove excess glue.
You can replace the metal decorative element with other elements. For example, ready-made flowers or beautiful Soviet buttons in the shape of stars.

The St. George Ribbon is a two-color element of the award of the Order of St. George, established in the 18th century by Empress Catherine II for the courage and services of soldiers to the Fatherland. For the first time, St. George's bows appeared on the May streets of our country in 2005 and since then have become an integral part of the celebrations in honor of Victory Day.

Flower making process

You can make a flower from St. George's ribbon quickly if you follow our tips.

Cut seven rectangles measuring 5 x 2.5 cm from the tape - these are the petals of the future flower.
Fold the corners of the rectangle from the wide side to form a triangle. Fold this figure in half again.
Turn the part with the fold up and bend the bottom corner to the fold. Do the same on the reverse side.
Light a match and melt the sections of the tape. This will hold the sides of the petal together and prevent them from falling apart. Straighten the part.
Attach all the petals in a circle with glue, forming a flower. Attach a bead or button to the middle of the corolla.

Making the base for the flower

Take a 25 cm long ribbon and fold it, crossing the strips of fabric. Fasten the folded area and glue the resulting flower on top. Turn the workpiece over and pin it. Don't forget to bird cut off the edges of the ribbon.

For reliability, you can cut out a circle from black felt, 1 cm smaller than the flower, and glue the petals on it. And then secure the resulting brooch with a pistol to the St. George ribbon.

Take 40 cm of tape and divide it in half. Using a needle, thread one piece of ribbon onto the thread. Pull it together with an accordion and form an unblown tulip. Fold the remaining ribbon in half and sew the bud to it. Secure the medallion with a pin to your clothing.

And this method of making an attribute is even simpler. You will need: two-color ribbon, a thick sheet of paper, scissors, thread and needle, button, fastener.

Cut a circle out of paper the size of the future flower. Sew a 20 cm ribbon by hand in the middle, gather it in small gathers, and glue it onto a circle in the shape of a flower. Insert an army button into the middle. Glue the brooch to the material. Attach a clasp to the back of the ribbon.

Decorate your buttonhole, bouquet of carnations, handbag, car with such cute flowers. Or give your craft to any elderly person you meet on the street, congratulating him on the holiday and wishing him good health.

Preparing for work

Before going to the store for the necessary materials or looking for the necessary blanks in the bins, it is recommended to decide on the type of decoration and the technique in which it will be made. This technique allows you to realize any fantasy of the craftswoman and make an exquisite patriotic brooch, hair clip and even a bracelet from scrap materials. But we will consider the option of making a classic kanzashi style brooch.

To create a unique decoration you will need the following tools:

scissors;
ruler;
needle and thread;
candle or lighter;
pencil or marker;
tweezers;
glue gun

If all the tools are available, then there will be no problems making a St. George ribbon with your own hands. But if the craftswoman doesn’t have a glue gun in her home arsenal, you can use any polymer glue.

Material purchase

Before you go to the store for materials, you should think about how to decorate the middle of your brooch. If you don’t have the skills to make kanzashi jewelry, it’s better to opt for a beautiful bead and half-bead. But experienced craftswomen who like handicrafts can decorate the St. George’s ribbon professionally with their own hands: make a flower, a spikelet or other decorative element from satin ribbons.

So, to make jewelry you will need:

satin St. George ribbon 2.5-6 cm wide;
large bead (half bead) or decorative center;
metal base for a brooch.

For those who want to turn their product into a real masterpiece, you can purchase beads in matching colors. You can use it to weave an original decor for the center or decorate the edges of the ribbon.

Let's get started

At the first stage of creating a St. George kanzashi ribbon with your own hands, you should prepare 5 pieces of ribbon, 7 cm each. To do this, carefully measure the pieces and cut them very evenly. Otherwise, the material will begin to crumble, and the flower petals will not be the same. Light a candle or lighter and singe the edges of the blanks. In this case, it is better to use tweezers to avoid injuries and burns.

We take the segment with the wrong side facing us, forming a right angle. Then we lower the second edge, clearly overlapping it with the first. The result is a petal with a sharp upper edge. Next, fold it in half to the wrong side, aligning the edges. At the bottom we fix the resulting fold with tweezers and turn the edges inside out. We solder the lower part of the finished petal over the fire. We make 4 more blanks in the same way.

Assembling the decoration

We take the remaining piece of tape 25 cm long, fold it and process the edges. Each side should be sealed with fire, after cutting off the middle part to form a so-called “flag”. Even for those who do not know how to make a St. George ribbon, this operation will not cause problems.

We lay the ribbon on the table with the wrong side up, fold the side edges, laying them crosswise. In this case, the edges of the tape can be aligned to the same length or you can opt for an asymmetrical arrangement. We sew the resulting ribbon loop in the center and immediately sew on the metal base for the brooch. After the thread we glue it in order to avoid unforeseen situations when wearing it.

We're reaching the finish line

At this stage of work, we have already prepared two main elements of decoration: a flower and a base with fasteners. We connect them with glue and press them at the junction until dry. Thus, a self-made St. George ribbon only needs decoration. Glue a bead or any beautiful center in the center of the flower and enjoy the beauty of your creation.

Even for novice needlewomen, the process of creating a St. George ribbon with your own hands will take no more than 20 minutes. And an unusual, strict decoration will become not only a symbol of patriotism, but also a source of pride for its owner.

Cut three squares from each color of ribbon

Fold the square diagonally to make a triangle.

Bend in half.

Using tweezers, clamp the folded triangle for the third time. We process the edges with flame. Then make sure that the bottom of the ends stick together.

The first petal is ready.

This is how we make subsequent preparations. Three pieces of each color.

Remove uneven edges with scissors.

We form the first branch of the tricolor. We attach the petals to each other using glue, so that each subsequent one is slightly higher than the previous one.

Between the first and second white petals we fix the blue one.

And the third - to the center.

In the same sequence we glue the red petals between the blue ones.

The first branch is formed.

We duplicate the production of the second branch in the same way.

We take out the St. George ribbon. We put it in a loop. Fix it in the center with glue

Prepare blank sheets of white, black and orange paper
On a white sheet we measure strips 1 cm wide
Line black and orange sheets into strips of the same width
Depending on the age of the children: either we give scissors and they cut them out on their own, or the teacher cuts out strips of orange and black paper himself.
